A man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of stabbing a person with a tiki torch.
Travis Lyons, 21, was arrested on suspicion second degree assault, third degree assault, criminal mischief and two counts of menacing after the incident, which occurred at about 8 p.m. in the 1100 block of 16th Street in Greeley.
According to Greeley police Lt. Steve Nelson, Lyons was in an argument with his girlfriend when he jumped on a car belonging to someone else -- breaking the windshield. After Lyons punched a woman who confronted him, he began threatening neighbors and said he was armed with a sawed-off shotgun that he said was hidden in his clothes, Nelson said.
It was then that Nino Gonzalez, 34, acting as a good Samaritan, confronted Lyons and was stabbed in the mouth with the sharp end of a tiki torch. When officers arrived, Nelson said, the two men were fighting -- Gonzalez defending himself with a garden hose that had a sprinkler attached to one end.
Gonzalez was taken to North Colorado Medical Center, 1801 16th St. in Greeley, and received 20 stitches on his lip. His injuries are not life threatening, Nelson said.
Lyons remained in the Weld County Jail on Friday night with bond set at $50,000.
