Dave Gilbert, age 46, of Livermore passed away suddenly on May 6 while traveling in Ontario, Canada. Dave was born on Feb. 24, 1962 in Minneapolis, Minn. to James and Gladys Gilbert. He received the doctorate in watershed science from Colorado State University where he worked as a research scientist. Dave and his friend and colleague, Tom Sale, built an internationally recognized environmental research program. The program has acquired seven patents and advanced numerous students at CSU.
Dave was married on June 21, 2002 to Susan Howe, his best friend and life companion. His greatest accomplishment arrived on Oct. 2, 2004, the birth of his son, Jensen Howe Gilbert. Dave loved the outdoors: hiking, paddling, and skiing. To know the river is to know Dave. He traveled extensively for work and pleasure. He is survived by his wife, Susan Howe, their son Jensen, brothers Phillip and Peter Gilbert and their families, and many friends. Dave is preceded in death by his parents.
